First and foremost, I love what I
do. As a very young child, I was amazed at how a crayon
could transform a page, whether from a coloring book or
a blank piece of paper. At age four I saw how layers of
color brought depth before my eyes. On a two
dimensional surface, I saw an object become three.
Early on I knew that art could speak more than words to
me and for me. Art was the one thing that brought deep
joy and meaning into my existence. Art allowed me to
make something happen. I found the power in art and how
it can develop a mood. I am dedicated to producing
perfect compositions whether on canvas or throughout an
environment for the enjoyment of all who see or move
through it.

Surface Designs, owned and operated by
artist, Jan Ford, has served the San Diego and Los Angeles
area since 1999. Surface Designs has over 35
years experience in color blending, mixing and matching
paints, and balancing color and texture in artwork, and
throughout Homes, offices, and retail stores throughout the
United States, since 1970.
Surface Designs believes that the
décor in a living space is the same as a composition on paper.
Perfect composition in a fine art piece allows the eye to move
freely within its framework. In a living environment the body and
eye move around the space within a room, or from one room to
another, within the structures framework. Balancing the composition
of color and texture is paramount in receiving enjoyment from any
given space whether it is fine art or applied artistry within a
